2016 RVCC Winter G/30 Championship and LOTS Warm-Up

As part of its series of special, one-day QUICK CHESS tournaments, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club held its Land of the Sky 'L.O.T.S.' Warm-Up tournament on Jan. 16. This took the format of a 4-round Swiss system with G/30, 30 sec. inc. time control.

Hunter Harlow dominated the field with a perfect 4 - 0 score, earning him clear 1st Place. Om Patel came in clear 2nd with 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 , losing only to Hunter and drawing with Brian Mackey, who claimed the 3rd spot with a solid 2 - 2 score. Mason McGrady won Top Amateur with a 1 - 3 tally.

Another young tiger, Christian Dotson, finished just out of the prize money; due to his relatively high rating, he had to yield to Mason for Top Amateur.

The rounds ran smoothly and the tournament actually finished ahead of schedule ! NM Rusty Potter, who runs the LOTS Warm-Up annually, continued to volunteer his time and expertise graciously on behalf of the RVCC.

Lastly, we once again want to thank our kind hosts at the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op for allowing us to tie up their public meeting room for almost the entire day !
