2012 RVCC Chess Career Milestones

Two veteran members of the RVCC achieved some personal milestones at the prestigious Land of The Sky tournament in Asheville, N.C. recently. The event was held during the last weekend in January.

For club Treasurer Josh Lilly, it was a triple hitter. Josh won the Top 'A' prize in the tournament, plus he won $400.00 in prize money !! To top it all off, Josh achieved a long-time goal of breaking into the 1900 rating range. At 1902, Josh is now the Southwest Virginia's newest 1900 player !

For National Master and Board Director Russell Potter, he too achieved a career first: he drew his first International Grandmaster ! 2625 rated GM Alexander Ivanov was the unwilling donor of the draw .

Congratulations to both of these RVCC members. Way to go guys !
