2009 MARCH QUICK CHESS - SECOND SATURDAY SPECIAL



As part of its series of special, one-day, Unrated but $$$ tournaments, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club recently held its MARCH QUICK CHESS TOURNAMENT. This tournament was held on Saturday, March 14, in the Coffee Shop of the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op in Roanoke, Virginia.

The tournament was a round-Robin event, with ALL entries being returned as prizes ! The time control was Game in 20 Minutes and was played under modified Quick Chess Rules.

First place was won in decisive style by Josh Lilly of Martinsville with an undefeated 5.5 / 6 score. Josh was stopped from achieving a perfect score only in the last round by Richard White of Bedford, who nicked him for a draw. Richard registered a strong second place finish with 4.5 / 6. Third place was won by Ed Falco of Salem. Jon Hendrickson, also of Salem, won the Top Amateur prize.

In addition to cash prizes, all prize winners received prize ribbons. In all, there were 4 players who won money ! Congratulations to all of the prize winners !

The on-site Tournament Director was Russell Potter. There were no significant problems of any kind and everyone appeared to have a really good time !

The Roanoke Valley Chess Club sincerely appreciates everyone who participated and made this Saturday Special event at the Co-Op yet another successful one in our series.
