Virginia Commonwealth Games

The 2008 Commonwealth Games was a two day rated chess tournament sponsored by the Roanoake Valley Chess Club and Conventry Commonwealth Games, Inc. This event was held at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood. There were scholastic and adult sections.  Scholastic sections were divided by grade level. The scholastic sections were held on July 19th and the adult sections were held on July 20th. There were 30 participants in the scholastic sections and 16 participants in the open sections. The tournament was ably directed without incident by Dr.Robert Collins. The Conventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia

"The Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia is an Olympic-style amateur sports festival for male and female athletes of all ages and abilities. The Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia is produced by Virginia Amateur Sports, Inc., a non-profit corporation located in Roanoke. The Games are sanctioned by the national governing body for State Games: the National Congress of State Games, the NCAA, the VHSL and recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as a State Games Participant."
